TULSA, Oklahoma -- There was a centennial celebration in Tulsa over the weekend. More than 1,000 people gathered at the Marriott Hotel to recognize the work of two missionaries half-a-world-away.
One hundred years ago Doctor Joseph Cope and his wife Elizabeth traveled to Myanmar.
During his time there, Doctor Cope developed a written language for the Zomi people.
"He invented our original language...until they came we didn't have an original language. Therefore they invented our language and that's the most significant part of our celebrations," said President Chin do Kham, Global Outreach & Community Development.
Today, close to 900 Zomi people live here in Green Country--and many are refugees.
Leaders say more than half of those will become U-S citizens in the next few years.
