TULSA, Oklahoma -- There was a centennial celebration in Tulsa over the weekend. More than 1,000 people gathered at the Marriott Hotel to recognize the work of two missionaries half-a-world-away.

One hundred years ago Doctor Joseph Cope and his wife Elizabeth traveled to Myanmar.

During his time there, Doctor Cope developed a written language for the Zomi people.

"He invented our original language...until they came we didn't have an original language. Therefore they invented our language and that's the most significant part of our celebrations," said President Chin do Kham, Global Outreach & Community Development.

Today, close to 900 Zomi people live here in Green Country--and many are refugees.

Leaders say more than half of those will become U-S citizens in the next few years.

Personal comment: 100 Years ago the Americans invented a new language for a new world, a new land in the rural and most remote areas of the Zomi people in Zogam, Burma and today they are celebrating their Centennial Jubilee in America. These Fathers of the Zomis, the American missionaries would never think that the same people they invented their written language would one day come and, thousands of them will celebrate and commemorate their historic day back in America. What a small world! See the Video News here.
