At present, there are more than 140,000 refugees and asylum seekers in 9 refugee camps in Thailand.

During the end of 2010 to May 2011, there were clashes between forces of Myanmar government and ethnic minorities groups, affecting influxes of more refugees and asylum seekers to Thailand. Thai officials, subsequently, repatriate them despite the ongoing violence.

Recently, it was confirmed by several reports that the Royal Thai Government planned to repatriate refugees and pressure was on to close refugee camps in Tak, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi.

The Human Rights Sub-Committee on Ethnic Minorities Stateless, Migrant Workers and Displaced Persons, The Lawyers Council of Thailand together with Thai Allied Committee with Desegregated Burma Foundation are pleased to invite you to a press conference, aiming to share recent information in the field and outcomes of our research as well as recommendations for 'voluntary repatriation' which harmonizes with human rights laws to the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Minister of Interior, and Secretary-General, and National Security Council of Thailand.
