Hi all. Melanie Tan here, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, PayPal Asia Pacific. We know that many people across the region don’t have a credit card or are uncomfortable using it online, and thus are missing out on all the benefits of using PayPal for faster and safer online shopping.

That’s why I’m excited to tell you that we’ve launched a prepaid card with MOL Access Portal Berhad (MOL), one of Asia’s leading payment systems providers, in Malaysia for online shopping and gaming. Called the MOL PayPal – The Digital Card, it is our first-ever co-branded prepaid card in the region and will be available initially in Malaysia on July 19, 2010. We are collaborating with MOL for this innovative venture because of their wide distribution network, prepaid card experience and digital lifestyle leadership.

The Digital Card enables Malaysians to fund their PayPal accounts that can be used to shop more easily and securely on millions of websites that accept PayPal as a payment option. PayPal accounts can also be used to buy MOLPoints, MOL’s online game payment service in Malaysia, to play over 200 games online. Now millions of Malaysian Internet users have a way to expand their digital lifestyles to get great offers from PayPal merchants worldwide and enjoy hours of fun online – even if they don’t have a credit card.

Malaysians will be able to buy The Digital Card in over 1,100 7-Eleven stores nationwide starting on July 19, 2010 or apply for it online. We are also offering a special preview of the card at the National World Cyber Games in Kuala Lumpur from July 16-18, 2010. Users can conveniently top up the card at more than 15,000 physical outlets in Malaysia or via online banking. Card holders will also enjoy a wide range of shopping benefits and gaming rewards for using The Digital Card.

Through this co-branded prepaid card, we’re thrilled to provide a new way for users to fund their PayPal accounts in Malaysia. We will continue to work hard to provide new funding sources for our users across the region and, ultimately, contribute to the growth of online shopping and e-commerce in Asia Pacific.
