Problem

To keep an area of a worksheet visible while you scroll to another area of the worksheet, you can lock specific rows or columns in one area by freezing panes .When you freeze panes, you keep specific rows or columns visible when you scroll in the worksheet. You will benefit a lot from this function in Microsoft Excel 2010. And I am glad to tell you how to freeze panes to lock specific rows or columns.

Solution

First, you need to select the row below the rows that you want to keep visible when you scroll if you want to lock rows.
If you want to lock columns, select the column to the right of the column or columns that you want to keep visible when you scroll.
Moreover, to lock both rows and columns, click the cell below and to the right of the rows and columns that you want to keep visible when you scroll.
In the ribbon, click "View" > "Window" > "Freeze Panes".
Under "Freeze Panes", click "Freeze Panes", "Freeze Top Row", "Freeze First Column" as you need.
You will see the effect like this after you choose "Freeze Panes" to lock rows and columns.
To unlock rows and columns, go to "View" > "Windows" and click "Unfreeze Panes" under "Freeze Panes" command.
It will return to the normal view like this.

Tips

What's more, you can freeze rows at the top and columns on the left side of the worksheet only. You cannot freeze rows and columns in the middle of the worksheet.
